Apr. 27th, 2005 09:49 pmI think I'm going to take up knitting again. I'm trying to limit the amount of time I spend poring over cross-stitch, it's on the verge of being too small for my eyes which is really sad. I've found this free pattern which I'm thinking of doing in a nice red when I manage to convert the needle sizes into UK ones and unearth an equivalent yarn easily available in the UK too. Red clothes are only in the shops at Christmas-time, and for the past two years I haven't actually seen any nice ones (in any size). So, it would be fab to have something nice in either a scarlet or a blood-red.
Driving today went well--I can parallel park nicely now, just need to build in observation whilst doing all the tricky stuff. That'll come in time, I think!

Date: 2005-04-28 07:48 pm (UTC)I love, love, love this one (found via knittingpatterncentral--thanks!): http://www.interweave.com/knit/TSC/mermaid_maid.asp Once I figure out the pattern chart (what on earth is ssk? slip stitch k?), I'll actually knit a tension square and see if I can still knit. I really wish I hadn't stopped knitting now.

Date: 2005-04-29 09:13 am (UTC)ssk == "slip slip knit". You slip two stitches knitwise onto the right needle, then put the point of the left needle into the front of the two stitches together, wrap the yarn around the right needle as if you were knitting them through the back loop, and pull the loop through... It's much easier to do than explain :D There are a jaw dropping number of sites with videos and all sorts of "how to's".
Nothing is too difficult to knit if you can follow the pattern, just like nothing is too difficult to cook if you can follow the recipe. Right? :)
Sorry, think I might be evangelising again. It's so cult-like. I highly recommend the LJ communities
