Feb. 22nd, 2005 02:25 pmJust met
madandy!! Who is absolutely luvverly and exactly as I imagined her, albeit with much longer hair. I have no idea why I thought your hair was short, Andy? Her wedding dress is absolutely gorgeous and it fits! I also look like a really expensive courtesan in it, so perfect for Nell Gwynne. I have a newfound appreciation for the small things in life, like... oxygen. Once you're trussed into the dress you have much less lung capacity to play with, but it's totally worth it!!
Now begins the struggle to find a hotel room somewhere remotely close to the party venue--there's no way that I, as a corset novice, can sit for 80 miles and get enough oxygen :P I fear we may be in for some long taxi rides unless Dave decides that he's not drinking (unlikely).
Dinner is currently cooking away and filling the house with scrumptious aromas. I fear it may be a little late to the table as I completely forgot how long the cooking time would be for a pot roast. Eight hours or so in the slow cooker. Ah well. At least there'll be plenty of it, with some left over for sandwiches hopefully.
ETA. I'd forgotten what an impatient cook I am. I keep hovering over the slow cooker expecting to see it doing something. The irony of this hasn't escaped me.

Date: 2005-02-22 04:23 pm (UTC)Your description of dinner and pot roast made me hungry (and I just had breakfast!) Almost seems like my computer has a smell component cuz I can sure smell the cooking pot roast! Must be one of those universal comfort scents.

Date: 2005-02-22 10:59 pm (UTC)The pot roast was less than stellar in my opinion, but Dave enjoyed it. I'm hoping that the chilli I'm planning for tomorrow is more successful. I suspect that pot roast simply isn't my thing.

Date: 2005-02-22 11:14 pm (UTC)Now that my costume is sorted out (apart from cleaning the mud off my own wedding shoes), I have to sort Dave's out. He's changed his mind at the last minute and I now have to make him a tail, some furry gloves and some cat-ears. I'm still not quite clear on what he's going as, but I'll buy the fabric and pretend it's for my nephew when I ask how to make a tail :P

I love pot roast. I even used to love my mother's pot roast and she's an absolutely talentless cook (and knows it, so she's thrilled that my stepfather now does all the cooking). I'm not really into the pot roast for the roast itself, though. I want the carrots and potatoes that were roasted with it. Mmmmm. (But if the meat winds up falling-apart tender, I can get pretty excited about that, too.)
God, now I'm starving....

Date: 2005-02-23 12:57 am (UTC)If your mother has any tips for pot roast then I think I need them. Dave liked it, but to me it tasted thin and odd. I do agree that the potatoes and carrots are the best bits, but these tasted odd too! I think it was the wine :(
Oh, as for meeting us.... When your laptop is up and running properly we should have a web-conf (I'm sure you've got a webcam guddling around somewhere) and also chat via Skype at the same time. Almost as good as meeting us in person, right? And on the plus side, you won't have to suffer through any crappy tea or coffee :P

Date: 2005-02-23 03:00 am (UTC)As for my mom's pot roast, she didn't use a slow cooker (which explains why I wasn't into the meat), and the only other thing I remember about how she made it was she'd dump a packet of dried onion soup over the top of it before stuffing it in the onion. I think it was dried onion soup + beef broth? Maybe? It's been so long.... Lazy old me, I just buy the Pot Roast in Bag thing off the seasoning shelf.
I haven't read any of Assimov's short stories. In fact, I think I've only read one Assimov book, and it's title has slipped my mind (Positronic Man? Maybe? It was the one they made that Robin Williams as a robot movie from). I've never been hugely into science fiction; I read probably only one, maybe two sf books a year. (Which is greater than the number of fantasy books I read in any given year....)
