Another day of fog. I suspect that it's freezing fog, too. I don't envy Dave driving home....

It's forecast to be -5C tonight, and we'll be lucky if it gets above freezing tomorrow. Deep joy. This is the sort of weather that makes hibernation look like a fucking great idea.

However! Dave has finally given in to my whines about being cold, and turned on the radiator in the computer room. Despite growing up in the frozen wastes of the north, I get very, very cold in winter and the rooms in the extended part of the house just leak heat. So, I'm now toasty and warm in the majority of rooms in the house.

The sheer joy of being warm has led me to complete a Foo Fighters story that's been lying around on my hard drive for months. Next up, in my quest to clear out WIPs, is an Authority/Bach Tight Five fic that's also been lying around, thumbing its nose at me.

I haven't forgotten NaNo, and I am scribbling notes each day--spread over at least four notebooks and a few envelope backs so far--but it was obvious from about day 5 that I wasn't going to make the target. What I'm taking away from the experience though, is the realisation that I can write an incredible amount when I stop worrying about whether each word works and deserves to be on the page. So. I plan to sit down and thrash out a proper outline of the story, and then finish it. It's not too bad, if I do say so myself.

Incidentally, if anyone finds themself in need of something dark and uncomfortable to read, they could do worse than start reading Heather's Roughing It over at Rockfic. I adore that story and I'll pimp it until the day I die.

Hmm. What is the curious knot in my stomach? Feels almost like... dread. Why, yes. Yes it is. It's dread. Hnh.

I must be reading Roughing It.

;)

You'll be feeling that knot for a while, I think. I've had the pleasure of reading it many times, and it still unsettles me. I'm excited to see the all-new ending!

So it's Roughing It: The Director's Cut? [grin] I didn't get to read the original one, so it's all new to me.

Pretty much! I should probably go and watch Deliverance to get even more of an atmospheric vibe going on....

Shall I tell you now that I'm about to break out in hives? Only Heather can do this to me, I swear. I HATE this story (and yes, it's the first time I'm reading it) but I'm fascinated, cannot tear my eyes away. This is what Heather's writing does to me, and why she just fuckin' rocks.

I have to admit to thinking of myself as a cream puff compared to the Boss. *grin*

I'm sure she wouldn't want you to get a rash! I'm thinking that we'll need to send you a care package of calamine lotion and valium before the week's out. Hell, I'd even set my anti-smoking stance aside for a minute or two and chuck some smokes in, too.

It's a very hard-hitting story. When I first read it, I felt like I'd been punched. Now, alas, it's still unsettling, but it's also hot. Heather has warped my brain.

Our house is full of radiators turned on. The fog yesterday was actually freezing in midair, something I have never seen before!

I've never seen fog hang around for so long. I'm trying to talk myself out of re-reading James Herbert's "The Fog" :P

We also have radiators on everywhere, but they're pretty ineffective in most rooms. The hallway is particularly bad :(

Gonna have to put that story on my list 'o' things to read!

And warm is good. The office finally warmed up while I was out @ lunch. I think I shall snuggle down in front of the computer and purr now.

The fog is really thick here, too. Driving back from the land closing, there was a stretch of five or six miles that was just opressive. It was like being walled in. (And got even worse when, out of the dense gray fog appeared an ominious sign: Runaway truck ramp ahead. Oh great.)

After I catch up on the boards and lj, I am off to work on the new "Roughing It" ending some more. I gave it plenty of thought during the long drive up and back.

Fog plus your windy roads seems like a recipe for disaster. I'm glad you guys made it back in one piece *hugs*

Fortunately it wasn't a windy road--it was the interstate. (And a not very busy interstate at that, thank goodness!)

And damn you for the new plot bunny. I should make you come all the way out here to clean its litter box.

I drove to work and my car said it was -3 :( This was when the sun was up too! I'm wondering if my flight to the Auk will be cancelled on Saturday.

Eeek! Although, that's now too cold for snow, isn't it? Selfishly, I'm hoping that your flight will be cancelled--it's much nicer having you onshore than offshore.

*snuggles*
