Baby, it's cold outside...
Nov. 17th, 2005 09:47 amWe have our first frost of the year. Brrr!!
The apple tree and grass in the back garden are all shimmery and frosty and you can see steam rising from the drains of nearby houses. I think that the weather forecasts may be right for once. This does look like a hard winter is coming....
We went to see The Brothers Grimm yesterday, which was um... very Terry Gilliam. The first third of the film was very choppy and the genre kept changing. One minute it was serious, the next a buddy film, then an action comedy, then an attempt at horror. I seriously considered walking out. However! I'm glad I stayed as it actually got interesting once they reached the midpoint.
Matt Damon is unrecognisable in the film. I normally spend Matt Damon films covered in drool, but this time around I spent rather a lot of time second guessing myself. Heath Ledger camped it up hugely--according to Dave, it was like he was doing an Alan Partridge impression all the way through. Having avoided Alan Partridge at every possible opportunity, I really couldn't venture an opinion--and was fairly amusing. I hope he's better in Brokeback Mountain.
Speaking of Brokeback Mountain, we saw a trailer for it at the cinema, which gives me hope that they'll actually show it in Bristol. According to IMDB it's only getting a limited release in selected cinemas. My girly film buddy, Vicky, is all fired up about it. After watching the trailer she raved about it to everyone who would listen, and even borrowed the short story from her sister. I'm thinking that I could probably corrupt her to slash pretty easily....
evaine and I swapped our NaNo stories last night and after a lot of excited squeeing, we decided that both stories must be continued. I doubt either of us will make it to 50,000 words by the end of the month, but we both have great storylines and characters going on.
I've added another 1128 words so far today, and am almost 20% of the way to the word goal. I think I may have to come up with some sub-plots--maybe a visit to Patrick's parents?--to boost the word count and round things out a bit. It's too linear at the moment, and heroes never have an easy journey in the best quests....

Date: 2005-11-17 03:14 pm (UTC)I'm really looking forward to Kong--Jack Black seems to be improving as an actor, as I haven't found myself grinding my teeth while watching the trailers. And of course, Kong is gorgeous.
Are you going to see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe? December's really filling up with fantastic films!

Date: 2005-11-18 10:19 am (UTC)You're more than welcome to run around in the frost--we won't have snow here for another month, I hope. Right now, the sun is lying low in the sky and is a soft, oddly cold yellow. Frost is still shimmering in a fine layer over the bushes and trees, but the grass looks like its been coated with tiny melted droplets of glass.
