I'm so proud! My washing machine has taken its first shaky steps across the kitchen.

...

Well. I'd be a whole lot more proud if it was a child and not the washing machine. *sigh* I'm wondering if it'll be cheaper to just replace the damn thing. It's old, and it was free, and while I can put up with a huge amount of noise in the spin cycle, I'm not prepared to tolerate it walking across the floor. There's water underneath it too, which everyone keeps attributing to a faulty door seal, but I'm not so sure about that. If it was just the door seal at fault, then surely the water would be coming from the front of the machine. Only a little comes from there, the bulk of the water is pooling much further back underneath.

Ho hum. I guess researching washing machines and trying to find our rental DVDs will keep me busy for a while. At least I won't sit and obsessively hit refresh while waiting for the Rockfic upgrade to happen!

ETA. [livejournal.com profile] rockfic! There are Halloween icons here! I know how you like to decorate early ;)

Congratulations on the important milestone :D (But it does look like it might be worth checking if just replacing the whole thing might not be cheaper in the long run...)

I'd congratulate you on the washing machine's first steps, but I figure you'd rather have it immobile. Mine's making unusual noises too. It's only four years old though. Or five? I think it might be a sheet vibrating. I hope.

Good luck finding a replacement.

I'd be buying a new one, myself. But that's great to hear that your washer's working!

Our washer used to 'walk' until the Hubby put a couple small slivers of wood under the front feet and I quit using the 'fast' cycle to spin water out of the clothes. It seems to do a better job on 'slow', IMO.

Mine walks too. Here's why, just in case it might prove helpful to you: A heavy load that somehow winds up leaning heavilly to one side. As in, 90% of the bulk is over by the right when you open up the lid to peer inside. That usually happens when you put in a lot of towels or bed sheets, 'cause the smaller pieces get caught in the bigger pieces and it all becomes one large, sudsy burrito. Of sorts. And Bella's right about the speed. Try setting it to a lower speed, and see if that nips the wayward ambler in the bud.

Yeah... I've been looking at washer prices. Ideally I want something sturdy as I seem to have an endless stream of laundry. Maybe I wash things too much?

Alas, this is a front-loading machine with fixed programs so I can't open the door and rearrange things :/ I have fond memories of top-loaders from when I was a student!

It hasn't walked since, so I'm a little happier. It still needs replacing sooner than later, though.

Good luck with yours, B!!

Yeah, I do suspect that it's off-balance. Either a rubber foot got lost, or it doesn't like the quarry tiles on the floor.... Something else to look into. Thanks, Bella!
