First visitor!

Wow, I didn't expect to have visitors so quickly! Rus just nipped round on his lunchbreak to see the house. Alas, he didn't have time to lift any boxes, but I'll try to tempt him back to shift some at the weekend :D (BTW, the house is still a mess, but we're inching towards some semblence of order.)

I'm not used to this concept of people just dropping in. My parents always announced visits to people days in advance and expected the same in return... and because we've spent six years or so having to plan visits to friends in Bristol, we've done the announcing thing. It's so weird--and very cool--to suddenly spot a friend walking down the drive towards the front door.

I'm not used to gentlemen callers :P

Oh, that is neat! I haven't had drop-in guests in a long time. Er, well, actually I guess we have had the neighbors up the hill drop by once or twice to grab one of the dogs for a hike and such. Oh, and last month one of said neighbors actually came right in the house when no one answered her knock and left some stuff on the kitchen counter! (I'm very embarassed that I might have been sitting right here in the corner in plain sight, typing away...oblivious.) But as for drop-in guests dropping in for coffee and to chat, I haven't had those since I lived in New Hampshire.

The last time I remember people just dropping by, was at Uni in halls of residence. Although, there were internal phones that we used to check whether people were in before traipsing to the other side of the building. Maybe it's a Scottish thing?

Oh well. Back to boxes... I think I might be able to move a bookcase later this afternoon if I keep shifting boxes this quickly. Wonder how heavy they are...

As to the boxes, when we moved into this house, we had boxes for almost a year in the basement--they got unpacked gradually, over the months, when the needed something specific. It's amazing how many things you can do without ... lol.

Yeah, we're only partially unpacking as there's no point in unpacking everything only to re-pack in six months or so. What I'm doing just now is moving boxes to better locations and trying to unearth the crucial things.

I'd love to get the livingroom sorted out this afternoon!

Yes, back in Colorado, back at work this week (thank heaven's the week is over) and mostly back to normal. Still tired from my "vacation" though. LOL.

Drop-in guests are nice. I hardly ever have any, but then, I don't have to keep the place too tidy all the time. ;)

Yes... that's the drawback to drop-in guests. I'll have to learn how to be tidy now! Alas, I won't be able to wander around nekkid in hot weather anymore :/

Since we live halfway up the side of a big hill and our nearest neighbors are either up at the top or down at the bottom, we never get anyone just 'dropping in.' Even the folks who board with us don't come up. I dunno if it's the 21 step staircase or the fact that our deck is something like 30 feet up in the air, hanging out over a mini-Grand Canyon...

Of course, with the state the house is in and the fact that I've done fuck all to clean it up, it's better that they call first...
