I failed.

But not horribly. Only eight faults, but, alas, I managed to get one serious and one dangerous fault. Both easily correctable if I manage to get a test date before the 9th of September in Reading. Aside from those two snafus, it was a really nice drive over what I'm told is a difficult test route.

I'm not upset. I'm incredibly proud of the way I held myself together and of the drive overall. So much better than my mock test (26 faults) and my first driving test almost a decade ago (22 faults). I know I can pass now.

ETA. Okay, now I'm upset. I can't get a test until mid-October.

Earliest bookable test date is Oct 18. Which really sucks. I won't be able to have weekly lessons, so I'll be all rusty. And then there's a whole potential mess surrounding my address change. *sigh*

You did good! As you say, much better than your mock test and the test from long ago. You've improved so much and I know you'll pass next time. I hope you can get another test date soon.

I often wonder how I'd do on those driving tests. Sure, I've been driving for ::quick calculation:: 27 years (ack!!) but it's also been that long since I've had lessons, since I've studied the rulebook, and since I've paid attention to how you're *supposed* to do things, not how real people in the real world actually *do* them, when driving. I suspect I'd fail a test... miserably... with many more than 30 faults. Hope that makes you feel better...

Thanks, Keli. Yes, I'd imagine that re-testing after getting set into your own way of driving would be quite daunting. Even over the last ten years, there has been a big change in the way in which you're officially supposed to drive....

Now that I've discovered how much hassle that there's going to be surrounding a new test I'm feeling quite pissed off at myself and full of Doom.

I've just had a chat with my instructor and I'll book the October test and ring daily to see if there are cancellations. If we get to end of September and there haven't been any, then I'll book a four-hour lesson to blitz away any weaknesses that have crept in. Until then, I guess I'll sit on the sofa and drive an imaginary car.

Because all the test dates/times have been booked up till then. I have to phone and check daily for cancellations, and then try and fit something into my schedule.
