ICE--In case of emergencies

I've just been passed this link about a campaign for a standardised In Case of Emergencies entry in mobile/cell phones. It's slipped from the news due to the bombings but hopefully it'll get a bit of a push once things calm down a little.

Just thought it would be a good idea to start spreading it through LJ-land. I'm about to edit my phonebook and add in the acrynom....

That is a way fucking good idea. I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to mention it. Really good.

My pops, who lives in Thailand, got his name tattooed in Chinese characters just below his armpit as a result of the Bali bombings. You know, just in case. Evidently, overseas in Asia, etc., the locals that show up to the scene after the incident but before the rescue personnel have a habit of cleaning the body of any and all valuables. Part of the problem in Bali...everyone was stripped clean of their wallets, jewelry, etc.

Craziness. But that...that is a good idea.

This is an excellent idea. Especially if phones came with a blank "ICE" entry in the phone book, like they suggest in the article. I am going to ad ICE to my contact list.
