Jun. 18th, 2005 06:03 pm# We saw Batman Begins this morning. It was fabulous! I take back all my reservations about Christian Bale being too... slight... to play Batman. He has The Voice too!
# I bought The Starter Marriage by Kate Harrison yesterday. It's my second attempt at enjoying chick-lit and so far it's going very well. I'm quite surprised. I think the difference between this book and others that I've tried is the characters. So far they're all well drawn and likeable. And they feel real! Plus, I've been reading Kate's blog for a little while and like her :) I suspect that helps.
# Upgraded to a paid LJ. Mmmm... icon goodness.
# I'm beta-ing some excellent fic, which is making me want to tackle my own reluctant!fic.
# Buying whisky with Dave is amusing. Choosing a bottle based on pretty packaging and price was a shock to my system. Still, at least he didn't succumb to the lure of the revolting Highland Park (it has a decidedly seaweed influenced taste and smell). Despite it's pretty box. A Scot shouldn't be subjected to such trauma! Still, could be worse... we could have been buying rum.

Date: 2005-06-18 09:49 pm (UTC)Batman Begins is one of the best comic translations I've ever seen. Only Spider-Man was better. The feel of Gotham was perfect. And there were a few cameo appearances which made us happy. They were a bit heavy-handed in places, but overall--excellent.

Date: 2005-06-18 08:57 pm (UTC)I'm anxious to see Batman Begins. I think I'm going to take my dad for Father's Day. It's the type of thing we like to do as a family. My mother will enjoy it, too. Bale is great! Loved American Psycho.
I'm not a fan of chicklit myself, but I'm always interested in breaking away from the traditional stuff I read. Let me know how the book progesses and maybe I'll pick it up. We should have our own book club!

Date: 2005-06-18 09:53 pm (UTC)You'll really enjoy Batman, I think. We're both huge fans, and I was quite anxious as I'd avoided all the production information and didn't really know what they were doing with it. I still prefer the Alfred from the Tim Burton films--Michael Caine is a bit too bulky for me to really take to him as Alfred. But yes, go and see it ASAP!

Date: 2005-06-18 11:01 pm (UTC)So Batman Begins is worthwhile watching? Hmm, just have to find someone who'll go with me then, lol.
I thought Dave is a Scot. How come he chooses whiskey by the prettiness of the box it comes in? I'm devastated!

Date: 2005-06-18 11:14 pm (UTC)Batman Begins should be mandatory viewing for anyone with even a passing interest in Batman. I only wish that they had aimed for a 15 rating (it's got a 12A certificate in the UK), but I'm fond of ultraviolence in films.
I'm the Scot--Dave is thoroughly English ;) Hence needing my advice about whisky (whiskey with an 'e' is Irish Whiskey, which is horrible). Alas, as he didn't know whether his dad was a whisky connoisseur, the choice came down to prettiness and price. Still what we ended up with looks... reasonable. And has a very pretty box and bottle.

Date: 2005-06-18 11:28 pm (UTC)Yeah, 50 are a lot, thinking about it...if I ever had a paid account, I'd spend all day glued to photostudio, forgetting to eat/drink/wash...;) I'm such an icon whore...

Date: 2005-06-18 11:25 pm (UTC)Plus... I do wine by labels! Whisky is different though ;)
Ignore me. I'd just be tempted to drink it with Irn Bru :P

Date: 2005-06-18 11:32 pm (UTC)I may not drink a lot these days... but I still take it seriously when buying it. I usually take a note of the wine if I particularly enjoyed it. Same with whisky. And for rum, well... the only rum worth drinking is Mt. Gay rum from Barbados, and for cocktails Bacardi is acceptable. Whisky and Irn Bru sounds horrible. Having said that... isn't Southern Comfort a form of whisky?

+ Buying whisky with me would be amusing too, being as I have absolutely no idea what's what or why or where. Jack Daniel's: That's where my whisky knowledge stops. xD
