The dishwasher man is here *dances madly*. He brought along a huge spare part, about a third of the size of the actual dishwasher. It's taking a while to sort out, as his phone keeps ringing *rolls eyes*
I wrote a few hundred words of Kirk/Jerry goodness. Alas, I don't think
madandy is going to be getting any beta work from me today, but it's getting closer to that stage :) For some reason, I have notes on this fic in three separate notebooks and two files on the PC. It's a little... fragmented.
Tonight we're going to curl up and watch a DVD or two and have some take-away. Chinese, I think.
Oh! I bought "Drawing Blood" yesterday, by Poppy Z. Brite. It starts off a little odd, and gets odder, but in a good way. I'm really enjoying it so far--it's good to see that reading Anne Rice as a teenager hasn't completely put me off books set in New Orleans and the South.

Date: 2005-05-10 04:00 pm (UTC)I never could get into Poppy Z. Brite. Someone I had a silly crush on introduced me to her work, and once the crush soured, poor Poppy never survived being linked to that whole, annoying mess.

Date: 2005-05-10 05:23 pm (UTC)I haven't had Diet Coke with Lime because I don't like diet drinks. I want to try the regular Coke with Lime, but it's going to have to wait for a road trip. Maybe when we go to Charlotte later this month; otherwise it'll be put off till the beach trip in July.
Or I could try putting lime juice in my caffeine free Coke....

Date: 2005-05-10 04:18 pm (UTC)Poppy is an experiment for me. I've been staring at her little bit of shelf-space at the bookshop ever since I met Heather and I've finally broken down and bought one. So far, so good. I completely understand associating books with people/events, though.

Date: 2005-05-10 04:26 pm (UTC)I need to put more space between what happened and Poppy. But I find it hard to do... Which is dumb, 'cause the whole thing only lasted a few months. :/ Maybe I should try that book Poppy wrote that isn't about vampires/dark fantasy.

Date: 2005-05-10 04:37 pm (UTC)You could try her culinary one? Heather has it on her reading pile and the reviews on Amazon sounded promising. Um, Hard Liquor, I think?

Date: 2005-05-10 04:13 pm (UTC)That's what Mark and I are doing, too, after we run errands. We started watching The Hills Have Eyes like a week ago and hope to finish it. Then move on to Last House on the Left. (I'm in a seventies horror flick mood.)
I really need to reread DRAWING BLOOD. I have it lying around. I wonder what I think of it ten years and a massive amount of slashfic later.

Date: 2005-05-10 04:23 pm (UTC)I think you'll still like Drawing Blood. She does fucked-up thin, pretty boys very well. I haven't winced yet at the phreaks and hax0rs either. The tiny bits of voodoo and magic have made me smile. I will say this... there's an astonishing lack of women in the book. One will pop up every time I think to myself, "Are there any women in this town?" and that's about it. As for the sex, it's...gently... graphic. An oxymoron perhaps?

Date: 2005-05-10 04:30 pm (UTC)I love that the book lacks women. :D Discovering that and the movies Reservoir Dogs and Glengarry Glenn Ross all within a few years of each other was great--I realized I didn't have to have women in my stories. (Unfortunately, that was also about the time I stopped writing stories altogether, but hey, I was just waiting for the Metallica muses to show up, right?)

Date: 2005-05-10 04:35 pm (UTC)It's just a semi-weird vibe, the not having women thing. I know I don't write women into my stories either (aside from Mustardseed and her sisters!) but I didn't expect it here. Actually, I have no idea what I expected other than sex. It's kinda nice... but at the same time I feel smug that every man there is (to varying degrees) incapable of taking care of themselves properly. Although, that may be my inner housewife talking--she's been very talkative this week.
