The dishwasher man is here *dances madly*. He brought along a huge spare part, about a third of the size of the actual dishwasher. It's taking a while to sort out, as his phone keeps ringing *rolls eyes*

I wrote a few hundred words of Kirk/Jerry goodness. Alas, I don't think [livejournal.com profile] madandy is going to be getting any beta work from me today, but it's getting closer to that stage :) For some reason, I have notes on this fic in three separate notebooks and two files on the PC. It's a little... fragmented.

Tonight we're going to curl up and watch a DVD or two and have some take-away. Chinese, I think.

Oh! I bought "Drawing Blood" yesterday, by Poppy Z. Brite. It starts off a little odd, and gets odder, but in a good way. I'm really enjoying it so far--it's good to see that reading Anne Rice as a teenager hasn't completely put me off books set in New Orleans and the South.

Don't you hate that? [And I'm guessing the eye rolls means that you do] When repair folk come in and spend most of the visit taking calls? Makes me wanna take the spare part and say: "Here, just show me what to do. You talk, I'll screw this in." Jeez.

I never could get into Poppy Z. Brite. Someone I had a silly crush on introduced me to her work, and once the crush soured, poor Poppy never survived being linked to that whole, annoying mess.

I had that happen with Pepsi years ago. Go figure.

Ever drank it again? Not big on Pepsi, me. Never have been. It tastes like Coke on melted ice to me.

I had thing for Pepsi Twist for a bit, but only on road trips ('cause me and caffiene usually don't dance well together, but on a road trip the caffiene can put itself to work in keeping me from getting highway hypnosis--as long as I don't do more than one 20 oz drink in a day *sigh*). Otherwise, I drink caffiene free Coke, sweet tea, root beer, or ginger ale.

Root beer. Good stuff. For reasons quite beyond me [Elliott suggested import laws] they don't carry root beer in most restaurants here. I miss it. Especially since it's pointless to have a root beer float made with Coke.

But Coke floats are nice. Mark and I have been having them lately, with chocolate ice cream. We call them *cough* doo-doo monsters *cough*

I'm just not big on Coke. It's root beer that floats my, er, float. xD I've never had [cough] doo-doo-monsters [cough] before, though. Usually they just have Coke + vanilla, like it or not.

Mmmmm, Pepsi Twist. I'm still torn between that and Diet Coke with Lime. Both nectar of the gods.

I do hope you're not as sensitive to caffeine as Zach is, in Drawing Blood....

I don't remember a thing about Zach and caffeine.

I haven't had Diet Coke with Lime because I don't like diet drinks. I want to try the regular Coke with Lime, but it's going to have to wait for a road trip. Maybe when we go to Charlotte later this month; otherwise it'll be put off till the beach trip in July.

Or I could try putting lime juice in my caffeine free Coke....

It's all finished now, and working! There are happy swishing sounds coming from the kitchen instead of tortured wails. And he swapped out a valve that was on the verge of breaking for no extra cost :)

Poppy is an experiment for me. I've been staring at her little bit of shelf-space at the bookshop ever since I met Heather and I've finally broken down and bought one. So far, so good. I completely understand associating books with people/events, though.

No extra cost? Ah, that more than makes up for the calling then. :)

I need to put more space between what happened and Poppy. But I find it hard to do... Which is dumb, 'cause the whole thing only lasted a few months. :/ Maybe I should try that book Poppy wrote that isn't about vampires/dark fantasy.

Yes... it is one of the perks of being a housewife with large boobies. I can almost hear a horde of furious feminists racing down the road towards the house :P It wasn't my idea!

You could try her culinary one? Heather has it on her reading pile and the reviews on Amazon sounded promising. Um, Hard Liquor, I think?

From: [identity profile] screwthedaisies.livejournal.com
Just LIQUOR. I think hard_liquor is her lj for it. No, wait, that's prime_liquor (which makes sense since LIQUOR's sequel is PRIME). I've never actually visited prime_liquor. I like just reading her [livejournal.com profile] docbrite posts. Today's was especially rewarding because she has exactly the same trouble with endings that I do, it turns out. Always nice to not be alone.

I've had Mexican repair men give me discounts simply because I'm Latina. It cannot be my boobs, 'cause I'd have to actually have boobs for that. xD

Tonight we're going to curl up and watch a DVD or two

That's what Mark and I are doing, too, after we run errands. We started watching The Hills Have Eyes like a week ago and hope to finish it. Then move on to Last House on the Left. (I'm in a seventies horror flick mood.)

I really need to reread DRAWING BLOOD. I have it lying around. I wonder what I think of it ten years and a massive amount of slashfic later.

I have no idea what we're watching. Possibly Hero then House of Flying Daggers? They're both in the pile of DVDs to watch.

I think you'll still like Drawing Blood. She does fucked-up thin, pretty boys very well. I haven't winced yet at the phreaks and hax0rs either. The tiny bits of voodoo and magic have made me smile. I will say this... there's an astonishing lack of women in the book. One will pop up every time I think to myself, "Are there any women in this town?" and that's about it. As for the sex, it's...gently... graphic. An oxymoron perhaps?

I have yet to watch House of Flying Daggers. It's in the DVD pile.

I love that the book lacks women. :D Discovering that and the movies Reservoir Dogs and Glengarry Glenn Ross all within a few years of each other was great--I realized I didn't have to have women in my stories. (Unfortunately, that was also about the time I stopped writing stories altogether, but hey, I was just waiting for the Metallica muses to show up, right?)

I thought you saw it at the cinema?

It's just a semi-weird vibe, the not having women thing. I know I don't write women into my stories either (aside from Mustardseed and her sisters!) but I didn't expect it here. Actually, I have no idea what I expected other than sex. It's kinda nice... but at the same time I feel smug that every man there is (to varying degrees) incapable of taking care of themselves properly. Although, that may be my inner housewife talking--she's been very talkative this week.

We never made it to the cinema. We didn't make it for Constantine either. I'm waiting for Constantine to hit Asheville Pizza's $2 theater. (HoFD will never make it to Asheville Pizza--not mainstream enough. *hrumph*)

I really enjoyed 'House of flying Daggers', me and my sister esacped the extended family on Boxing Day and went to see it. Now I really must invest in the DVD.

*Eyes ever-growing Amazon Wish List warily*

'Drawing Blood' is a good choice. I like it a lot better than 'Lost Souls', which I have only read a couple of times, and 'Exquisite Corpse', which I couldn't even finish. *Nods* Enjoy.

And Kirk/Jerry goodness? Nice to see someone else is writing JerryFic. Makes me feel less pressured to perform ;)

I couldn't finish LOST SOULS. Tried twice.

Lost Souls is the vampire one, and Exquisite Corpse the serial killers, right? I flicked through the first 10 pages or so of EC and it didn't do a lot for me. Which is odd. I love reading serial killer crime books, my bookcase is testament to that, and I love reading about m/m love stories... but together.... I don't know why it doesn't work, but I do know that I don't want to read that book.

Yeah, EC is the serial killers one. It didn't do anything for me whatsoever, and it isn't often I'm unable to finish a book I picked out myself (as opposed to one given as a gift etc).
