Dear flaming red blotch on my cheek,

I don't know why you've decided to blight my existence. However, please fuck off. The world has enough traffic lights without my cheek needing to pass for one.

Much loathing,

Me.

On that very subject... I have just returned from our local waxing emporium. There are SOME PLACES that are never meant to BLEED.

However... FEAR MY UBAR PAIN THRESHHOLD!!!

You didn't go for a brazilian did you? *shrinks back in terror* If so, your pain threshold is verging on superhuman!

The worst thing is... the blotch is getting bigger. I fear it will confuse my driving instructor tomorrow.

There are more nerve endings in adipose (fatty) tissue than in muscle. This means that women, thanks to the way we are made, feel the pain of waxing, piercing and tattoos more than men.

However, we apparently have a far higher pain threshold.

Dreammonkey has obviously just proved this...(as did I by pulling agonised faces when being tattooed the other week!!!!)

Well, we need the higher pain threshold since we're lumbered with the possibility of childbirth. Why can't men be more like seahorses, eh?

Any idea why adipose tissue has more nerve endings than muscle? I expected muscle to have more nerve endings as it has to do more.

Muscle does more, so the nerve endings it has got are telling it to do stuff. Less oxygen available for nerves that just say 'ow'. Fatty tissue just sort of sits there, so all the nerve endings are bored and have nothing to do except scream bloody murder whenever anyone comes near them with a needle. Or strip of wax. Whatever.

Nope, didn't go for a Brazilian. I am not that brave :D It was a lot less painful as I had thought though.

Which was a RELIEF!

Oh dear. You have my sympathies. I occasionally break out in extra eyes, rather than blotches.

That sounds... painful.

I was gonna put together an alliteration with "healing" in it, but couldn't find enough words starting with an "h". Hope it heals anyway. :D
