Today is Bread Day. I'm trying to make ciabatta again. I made some on um, monday? I think. Big beautiful holes in the crumb but the bread itself was very flat having spread outwards instead of rising up in the final proof. Lovely dough though--it felt as airy as candy floss. Today's dough doesn't feel as light. I tried a different recipe, from yet another celebrity master baker (yes, giggle away), and I just couldn't get the dough wet enough. It was only slightly sticky, instead of clinging-to-your-hands sticky. It does feel reasonably light after proofing on the worktop, so we'll see how it turns out. I suspect that I'll produce tasty loaves of close-crumbed bread rather than sexy open-holed crumb. The exciting thing about this recipe is that I made a cloche to ensure that the loaves rose upwards instead of out to the sides.

Hmm. This lj seems to have turned into a weird hodge-podge of food and porn. Oh well.

I've been working on the revised version of Perfect Replica after getting some wonderful concrit from the Rockfic Writers Group. Dave was asking me what the difference was between having your work beta-read and getting concrit. I'm at a loss to explain it. To me, it feels different. Maybe it's the group aspect?

It all depends on who is doing the beta, I would say. Some betas/editors - not many - will give you an actual concrit back. Of course, the author has to ASK for an 'edit' or 'beta' that in depth and I don't think many do. When my friend Lisa edited my Fault Lines for me, she did give me somewhat of a concrit and I loved it! Of course, she knows me really well, and knows what will get me upset and what won't. *LOL* So, in the end... I'd have to say that a true, in-depth edit/beta would be pretty much a concrit. JMHO. :)

I enjoy reading your baking posts. I like baking, but baking doesn't like me. *stares at giant cookie that's supposed to be twelve cookies*

Thanks Funky :) Today was not as successful as I'd hoped. The bread looked fantastic, but the crumb was all wrong. Oh well. I'll attempt it again on Monday....

Is there anything else? :D

I too think it is the group aspect. You get a couple of different opinions from different people with different likings. I found that critters (LOL) critting the same story pick very different aspects of the story to crit on.

I'm in love with all the words derived from "concrit".
