It's the end of an era...

I hung up my editor's hat yesterday. It's on the peg right next to my long-discarded writer's hat.

When you've stared at a paragraph for days upon days upon days and not been able to offer anything constructive, yet come back the next day to find typos/missing words/whatever... it's time to give up. There's always a nagging feeling that I'm missing something, too.

So, I'm terribly sorry if anyone was writing anything with a view to having me look at it. I'll either take an eternity, leaving you to wonder if it really is awful or not do a good job.

Last one out, turn off the lights.

Aw, you'll be able to dust those hats off again one day down the road. (You'll probably be thrilled for the change of pace at some point!) But for right now? No surprise your mind's not focusing on this sort of stuff! No suprise at all. *hugs*

I'm weeping. Seriously. Even though I totally understand and KNOW you'll be back one day. Even though it was a couple of decades ago, I remember how scattered my mind was during this stage of my pregnancy and after Michael's birth.

So, say it's a sabbatical, not the end. *smile*

Baby, you are The BEST editor in the world. I'm serious. What you have done for me over the past year and a half - two years, is nothing short of a miracle. You teach while you edit. You support and encourage. You inspire. And you're one tough cookie too. Speck is the only person to whom I'd willingly lose you. So as I said, while I completely understand - and indeed, have been surprised this hasn't happened earlier - I'm going to be selfishly sad for a while.

Don't you worry, though. We're keeping both your writer's ('cause damn, I NEED more of your James/Jason, never mind Tim/Kon and all the rest) chair and your editor's chair warm.

I just want to add my thoughts onto Ev's being another very, very grateful recipient of any and all pearls of wisdom you have had to give me. Every point in red font has been noted and appreciated.

So like Ev, I'm a little sad, but I understand completely and am very excited for you for the adventure that you are about to embark on!

Thank-you so much everyone! I've had great fun both writing and editing over the last couple of years--and I'm still toying with trying to get into editing somehow when my brain returns--so I am very sad to have to end it just now.
