I was very brave and had tons of blood taken today. Six blasted tubes of the stuff, in fact. Alas, it seems that I'm now too old to be given a lollipop or colourful plaster for not fainting. I think I may be officially grown-up.

Ouch.

Oh well, at least they only had to use one one needle.

Yes. There was some minor panic while the nurse searched around for a really small needle, though. Thank god she found one!!

*hands Ang a candy James on a stick* Here, hon, you deserve this. *grin*

Well, that sucks. Anybody should have lollipops.

*sends Ang the delicious, sinful, creamy hot cocoa she gets everytime she donates blood*

Oooh, now that's better than a lollipop!

Thanks, hon. More bloods in another 21 days or so. Deep joy.

Ooooh, that sounds wonderful! I can't remember the last time I had proper cocoa.... Maybe I should make some this afternoon, wonder how it'll turn out with skimmed milk?

Six tubes! I almost fainted just reading it! ~smooths a plaster with images of Tim and Kon in a rooftop embrace on it onto the booboo~

Not even a sticker?

You know, I'm starting to think that if doctors rewarded adult patients as well as kids, they'd stop by the office more often.

I would stop by their offices more often if, when I did, they actually fixed something from time to time.

~thinks hard~ I got antibiotics for a urinary tract infection in 2000, and those worked real well.

There should have at least been been a Barbie plaster or something. Or for you, an X-Men or Batman plaster!

Clearly NHS funding is not going into the vital ares any more!

I stopped showing up because I got tired of explaining that my union provided, part-time worker, crappy health insurance covered basically nothing and I couldn't afford to fix every second tooth in my mouth.

Now I have no health insurance, so I live in dread of any teeth doing anything drastic, like requiring a root canal.

I hear it's healthier to have your tooth out than to have a root canal...but I hear that on the Internet, so it's to be taken with a grain of salt. (It's certainly cheaper and quicker to have a tooth out. $90 vs. $500 - 1500 for a root canal. But then if it's a tooth people would see, you'd probably want it replaced with an implant, which kills any savings you might have gotten and requires multiple visits, in which case, Internet be damned, a root canal would be the better way to go. But if it's for a way-in-the-back-of-your-mouth molar, $90 and five minutes at your dentist office would be the way to go.)

Lucky for me [and my bank account] the one tooth I'm worried about is way in the back. Right next to a tooth I had a root canal on, actually.

Yeah, I wasn't happy with the sheer number either. But what a wonderful image!

No :( Obviously I didn't look pathetic enough. Although, I did score a large glass of iced water as my colour was off!

Heh. That would have been good :D

Next time, go in looking as pathetic as possible. Maybe they'll brew you some tea at least.

I would have given you a bright plaster. And a balloon.

(If they're good, my patients get a biscuit.)

My root canal was actually cheaper than having the tooth out and having one put in its place, beleve it or not. Of course, you're talking to a person who had that AND 14 other teeth filled and drilled last year over a three month period.

After that, my fear of dentists was LONG gone, esp since the dentist I have is way cute and knows that more drugs are better when you're doing dental work.

Ang---I have to go for bloodwork on Monday and I'm sure they'll take 6 tubes from me too, so don't feel alone! I think I might ask for a cute band-aid!

You only have to faint once while drawing blood and then remind them each time you return that you fainted last time and that you think it's because your blood-sugar was too low and that the lollipop you ate afterwards really made you feel so much better.

Well, you should have had something for being so brave. I go all squeamish at the mere thought of blood tests.

For six tubes, they should have provided you with the special Tim/Kon Doing Naughty Things Elastoplasts they must have lying about somewhere ;)

Heh. I got treated with kid gloves at my old GP's surgery after fainting. I shall, however, be endeavouring not to do it again. I think I'd die of sheer embarrassment!
