Enjoying this series probably says something about the whacked out state of my mind right now. I'm choosing to blame this on the interesting cocktail of medicine and caffeine I'm on--I was convinced that my tissues were candy floss earlier on--rather than any deep-seated and worrisome interests in torture.
Anyway, on with the show!
This is a Firefly rec. I'll be the first to step up and say that I know bugger all about Firefly. I've watched all the eps, can identify all the characters, enjoyed the heck out of Serenity... but I don't know and love them the way the real Brown coats do. So, wtf am I doing reading a bunch of Firefly fics tonight?
Only the candy floss knows.
Incidentally, I can now speak, however... when I do, I sound like I've been either sucking cock all day, or, the seven dwarves have found a promising gemstone seam in my throat and are mining away happily with cute little pickaxes. I want the emeralds.
[Have I mentioned that I'm running a temperature? Dave turned the heating off and I'm still boiling.]
So. The Filament is a series of ten stories which are wound together by the lasting trauma and general fucked-up-ness that Wash is going through after some particularly nasty--and inventive. Full marks to Lemon Lashes!--torture. (I'm pretty sure this particular torture session isn't canon; I'd like to think that I'd remember that.) The story arc dips in and out of canon, but it'll take a proper fan--or someone who isn't mildly high--to point out the relevant episodes and appreciate them properly.
So, torture, a whole heap of great sex, a healthy dose of femmeslash--Lemon Lashes' River is good, especially in Powder Burns--some delicious snark--and we all know how much I love snark, right?--and what appears to be a good plot. Oh! Some awesome cross-dressing, too!! I'll probably disagree with half of this when my brain deigns to come back, but right now I'm really loving this author's work. It has an unfinished feel to it, which is undoubtably due to Firefly beingstruck down in its prime cancelled. Woe.
Oh! Another rec. Big Damn Zombies, Sir by Shrift. This? Reads like an episode. Hilarious plot, great snappy dialogue, and OMG. Jayne.
(BTW, these are all old fics, so I wouldn't be surprised if you guys have already come across them. If you have, feel free to laugh at the weirdness going on in my head right now. I'm sick. But not as sick as a parrot; I've always found parrots to be far more robust than me.)

Date: 2005-12-11 10:11 am (UTC)Parrots. Good at dropping dead and getting weird diseases. Trust me on this.
Your line as to sounding like you'd been sucking cock all day? Mt new keyboard keeps getting sprayed with tea like that it's going to go the way of the old one... damn, girl, and my sinuses got a tea wash too! Total drinksnort moment.
Feel better! *Hugs*

Date: 2005-12-11 11:29 am (UTC)I am just about to discover the Firefly 'verse, and I'm delighted to see I'm not the only one who likes it. I hope Serenity helps bring back the show (or finally bring it to German free TV *eyeroll*).
Maybe they even continue the show (whithout Wash? *gasp*).
*happily saves Ang's fic reccs*
Get better soon. :)

Date: 2005-12-11 07:51 pm (UTC)There are whispers that Firefly will continue as TV movies. I shan't believe it until I actually see first set reports though; I'm still irritable that all the rumours of Angel TV movies came to nothing at all. The comic is doing good business so there's plenty of obvious fan-interest.
I'm still poking around in the fandom, so if I find some good fics I'll rec them here!
