Dust and organisation
Feb. 15th, 2005 02:12 pmWhy is it that whenever I get a housework epithany, that I forget that I am allergic to dust and should therefore damp-dust? I'll be sneezing for the rest of the week now, and all because I am forgetful and lazy. Maybe I'll remember this one day?
Whilst chucking stuff out, I came across my Palm V. I'm ashamed to say that I haven't used it since before we moved house last year. Ooops! I think I decided that after giving up work I didn't need it to organise myself. I may have been ever so slightly mistaken there. It's currently charging and I know that all the data will have been lost. Yup, everything is gone. Dammit. I'll have to go on a spree of calling everyone and double-checking birthdays.
Do any of you guys *looks hopefully at friends list* use Palms (or similar)? Are there any cool must-have apps that have appeared in the last two years? I seem to remember that you want to swap out the provided date book with another app?

Date: 2005-02-15 08:35 pm (UTC)Anyway... I had an app on an earlier Palm model that was a pet monkey. Watching the monkey shit itself and throw crap at you has a limited span of enjoyment.
But for better apps, there's DocumentsToGo I love that app. I haven't tried it with OpenOffice files saved as Word Docs, but I think it would work (it won't work for OpenOffice spreadsheet files). What it does is it lets you open/edit/create MSOffice docs & spreadsheets on your Palm. I don't (hahahahahahahahahaha) do any writing on the Palm, really, but I still find DTG useful for when I want to load the Palm up with fanfic to read. I just paste fanfic into Word Documents and HotSync 'em over.
(Alternately, you could save fics as PDF files and get Adobe's PDF reader for Palms.)
DocumentsToGo is really the only app I use on my Palm. Aside from the PDF reader, the crappy web browser, and the email program that will receive but not send, I can't even think of what else I might have stuck on there.
Mark, however, who is a Microsoft Money fanatic has a great app (I forget its name) that's a mini Money type of thing. He loves being able to enter purchases on his way out of the store then HotSync them into Money when he gets home. (I love his being able to do that, too. No more does he disappear for ten minutes when we come back from shopping.)

Date: 2005-02-16 05:41 am (UTC)Don't have a Palm, at least not yet. I'm not organized enough to, anyway. LOL.
H said "Mine is currently lying on my nightstand completely dead because the dogs, whilst horseplaying, snatched the power cord up with their legs, which somehow (amazingly, actually) swept the docking station right out from under the handheld. Docking station is on the floor (has been for a week), Palm is neatly on the table. I don't understand the physics of it either." LOLOL... maybe the dogs don't know that they can't, physics-cally, do that? That sentence created a detailed image in my minds eye... mostly because my dogs have done a similar thing, only with the laptop instead of the Palm. I laughed, though I was swearing at the time it happened to me, lol.

Date: 2005-02-17 12:36 am (UTC)I've downloaded HandyShopper and populated it with some lists - boring ones thus far, just housework and shopping lists. If I organise the shopping list according to the aisle layout of our supermarket I should be able to make it round in double-quick time. Very boring I know, but I spend way too much time back-tracking for things which are scribbled on the back of the list!
I do plan on using it to keep a list of movies that I want to see/buy (same with books too). And it's freeware :) Beamer sounds fun!

Date: 2005-02-17 12:40 am (UTC)The PDF viewer sounds good... keeping a ready supply of porn on the Palm (is it only me that chuckles at that thought?) would be fun for long journeys! I saw that you can get book bundles v.cheaply too. I'm not surprised that you don't do any writing with the Palm... the tip-tapping would drive me insane!

Date: 2005-02-17 12:48 am (UTC)It is hard to make a clean break from pen and paper though... I've just spent the past three hours lying on the bed with a printout and notebook. Sometimes you just need to do it that way.
