Oct. 7th, 2005 11:43 pmWhat is the last thing you wrote?
An IM to Heather. Oh, you mean fiction? The final chapter for Joe's Bar
Is it any good?
It's... interesting. The first two chapters are good! I'm just not sure about the final one :P
What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
Um. That's probably either some flash fiction I wrote in 2000 or some dreadful poetry I sent Dave that year.
Was it any good?
It was good at the time.
Write poetry?
Yes. Most recently an ode to my beloved dishwasher. Don't ask.
Angsty poetry?
No.
Favourite genre of writing?
Conflict-filled realism. Magic-realism--or whatever they're calling it today--comes a close second.
Most fun character you ever wrote?
Ms Prim--Be Careful What You Wish For.
Most annoying character you ever wrote?
Oberon--Where The Wild Things Are.
Best plot you ever wrote?
Fire & Ice.
Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
I don't really do twists. Maybe Pool Shark?
How often do you get writer's block?
It's a chronic condition.
How do you fix it?
Whine. A lot. Then change my routine. If I've been writing at the computer, then I'll pick up a notebook and write by hand. Write upstairs instead of downstairs. Write on the bus or the train instead of at home. You get the idea, right?
Write fan fiction?
Yes.
Do you type or write by hand?
Both. It depends on the mood. I usually edit on paper while tucked up in bed.
Do you save everything you write?
Yes. I'll happily recycle discarded scenes months later.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
See above.
What's your favourite thing that you've written?
Pool Shark. Short and to the point.
What's everyone else's favourite thing that you've written?
Fire & Ice, I think. Maybe Manipulation.
Do you even show people your work?
Sure.
Who's your favourite constructive critic?
It's a tie between Ev and Heather.
you have a web site for your writing?
No. Give me a few years, though.
Did you ever write a novel?
Not yet. I'm planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year, though.
Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
Yes, no and yes.
Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
No.
What's your favourite setting for your characters?
Their regular haunts. I do have a bit of a weakness for hotel rooms, though.
What's one genre you've never written, and probably never will?
Jolly-hockey-sticks school stories.
How many writing projects are you working on right now, grasshopper?
About 12.
Do you want to write for a living?
Yup.
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
Does a journal count? I've had a couple of papers published.
Have you ever won an award for your writing?
No.
Ever written something in script or play format?
No.
What are your five favourite words?
Lascivious, eviscerate, maelstrom, whip, palm.
Do you ever parody?
No.
What's your favourite thing to parody?
See above.
Do you actually like that thing, or are you spitefully making fun of it?
Once more, see above.
Do you ever write based on yourself?
Not intentionally. I'm sure that bits of me pepper what I've written, though.
What character that you've written most resembles yourself?
Um. I have no idea.
Where do you get ideas for your other characters?
People. From the cute, corruptible waiter to the weird guy on the bus, they're all fair game.
Do you ever write based on your dreams?
Maybe once?
Do you favour happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
Sad endings. Well, gritty endings. They're sad, right?
Have you ever written based on a work of art that you've seen?
Does Hetfield's ass qualify as a work of art? If so, yes.
Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Absolutely.
Ever write something entirely in chatspeak (how r u)?
No.
Entirely in 1337?
Yep. It was one conversation with a skript kiddie, and it just about killed me.
Was that question completely appalling and un-writer like?
*rolls eyes* No. But the fact that you asked says volumes.
Does music help you write?
Yes.
Do you have a weblog or livejournal?
Well, now, sparky... why would I be filling this out if I didn't have one? As it happens, I have both.
Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
No idea. I was surprised, though!
Quote something you've written.
The spikes of pain shooting up Casey’s legs give him added impetus and sharpen his mind to a pure focus. He can do this.
Legs and heart pumping wildly, he darts out between the grimy buses. A certain grim satisfaction rises within him as the football team starts to stampede after him. More akin to animals than ever before. Behind him he know--hopes--that Zeke’s raking through the trunk of his car. Equally as frantic as Casey. Casey continues to lead the team on a merry little dance.
Hysteria threatens to bubble over when he remembers how the Coach complimented his speed.
