Apr. 17th, 2005 04:24 pmToday, I made butter. *beams* Alas, no photos--I should have checked the camera batteries before messing around in the kitchen. It's quite wonderful: sweet, creamy, pale yellow and gorgeous. Obviously more expensive than just buying a block of organic butter, but this way I get to feel excited and virtuous :) I also have a nice big loaf of wholemeal bread rising, so that I have something suitably yummy to slather the butter onto.
I have a sudden urge to try making my own cheese next.

Date: 2005-04-17 08:40 pm (UTC)I remember when I was little I spent vacation with relatives in the country, and my great aunt would make butter at home. She had this wooden... *runs to consult a dictionary* ... churn(?) and she let me work it, but it was such hard work. I hope you used a more modern method :D.
If I were to choose the last meal of my life, it would be freshly baked crusty bread with caraway seeds and home-made butter.
