Went shopping with the lovely Dave this morning, and popped into Waterstones as I can't resist buying books. (If only I also bought bookcases.) So, after searching through a lot of wishy-washy romantic dreck in the erotica section, I actually found gold--Best Gay Erotica '05. Picked up a couple of horror books (the second Merry Gentry and an early James Herbert) and made my way to the till. Normally, when one buys erotica in a highstreet bookshop (or indeed any shop), they carefully don't mention what you're purchasing. It's just the unwritten (or in this case, unspoken) rule. But not this time.... I think I'll retreat into the safety of prose.

"Have you ever read any Poppy Z. Brite?" asked the odd little bookseller, his bald head glistening under a spotlight.
"Err, no. But I just had a look at a couple and they really didn't seem that interesting."
"Really," he said, arching a bushy eyebrow, "she mixes hardcore erotica with horror. I think you'd really enjoy her work based on your purchases today." He made an expansive guesture with his hands, waving the erotic title around so that everyone paid attention to him.
"I'll um, bear it in mind," said the mortified customer, wishing for a bolt of lightning to strike. She wasn't sure whether the bolt should strike her or the unsettling member of staff, but a bolt would be very welcome.
Alas, no rescue was forthcoming. The embarassed little customer eventually scuttled out and resolved to do her shopping online in future.

Also. Just logged onto a baby/ttc forum that I use quite a lot, to find that it's in complete turmoil. The administrator has apparently been having an affair with the husband of one of the forumites (interestingly the bloke at fault runs a sex toy/aid online store). All in all, four children's lives will be turned upside down by this. Its been admitted in a now deleted post and there are a good couple of hundred of outraged messages. Looks like the site won't be around for much longer which is a huge shame, especially after there was a fund-raising day recently to raise money for a new server due to the increased popularity.
