We took a trip to Brighton today, for no other reason than we wanted to do something, but doing anything in town was off due to the half-marathon.

My legs are now killing me, which is a certain sign that we had fun :) Not that sort of fun! (At least, not in Brighton :P) we walked for a good three miles down the seafront, along the beach, and up and down the pier. I managed to resist the palm reader, tarot card readings, but I did succumb to having my aura read by a machine. Psychic Sarah says that I have a beautiful yellow aura, which means that I am highly creative. Much squealing and happiness, for a pound. Bargin!

On the subject of the beach. I'm having to redefine my idea of what a beach is. Apparently it's merely the meeting of the land and the sea/ocean. It does not indicate that there will be any sand. Yes, Brighton's beach consists of large stones, pebbles and shale. With the occasional shell thrown in for variety. No sand, other than that on the beach volleyball court (I still can't get over that - there was also a basketball court, alas, no cute guys). So, this is the first time that I've ever been to a beach without sand. Even in the wilds of Scotland our beaches have sand! (And the occasional radioactive particle that shouldn't be there, but still!)

I was going to buy a bucket and make a sand-castle. *pouts*

Even without sand we had a great time :D It was good to see the sea again. Must go back in the summer when the pretty boys are wandering around instead of tucked up indoors! Also, must find out what the beautiful building with many onion-domes on it is....

These domes? http://www.btinternet.com/~ted.power/rp00.html

Sounds like a fun day, even without the sand!

Yes! I did wonder if it was the Royal Pavillion, but our legs were knackered and I couldn't be bothered walking to it. Thanks Heather :)

Was it any warmer than Aberdeen in the summer ? :D

No, actually! There was a bitter wind blowing in from France. Damn them! I'd say it was like Aberdeen in May. I actually turned round to Dave, when we were on the pier looking back at the seafront, that it reminded me of Aberdeen. All the buildings were gray. I guess they used to be white?

Poor, poor Aberdeen. Doomed to be grey and dreicht forever.

PS. Does Aberdeen have a pebble beach?

Grey and driech in the rain, yes. but Silver in the sunlight :)

We have lovely sands that stretch for miles up the coast. Some bloke once sang "The Silver city with the golden sands"

Which is a bit ott, but it was a catchy tune :D
