Char sui (aka char siu/siew/sie--the spelling is rather... fluid) is basically Chinese Roast Pork. Pork is marinated in a mixture of soy, oyster and hoisin sauce, shaoxing wine, five-spice powder, and honey for up to 24 hours before being roasted. So far it's had nine hours and it looks amazing!
When roasted it gets nice and blackened around the edges, which are the best parts :) It ends up sweet, salty, slightly spicy... but yet you can still tell that it is pork. I'll be using it tomorrow, as a filling for bread buns. I can't wait to try them!
As for spiders, I haven't read your story. I'm sorry! I don't think I could bear a story about a spider :P
